The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the naming of Ferrell Singleton as the Interim Head of School.
Mr. Singleton, who will begin his role as Interim at The Schenck School on July 1, brings with him thirty-five years experience as a head of independent schools.
Mr. Singleton holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Birmingham Southern College and a M.A. in Psychology from Furman University. He has also been president, vice president, and executive committee member for the Georgia Association of Independent Schools. Additionally, he has been region president for the Georgia High School Association.
Mr. Singleton began his independent school career as a classroom teacher and later the Director of the Lower School at Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, SC. From there, he was Director of the Middle School at The Lovett School, Headmaster at The Valwood School in Valdosta and President and Headmaster at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville.
After retiring in 2005, he began a new career as an independent school consultant working with school administrators and trustees on strategic planning, governance, accreditation, and head of school searches. Most recently, he served in interim leadership positions including Interim Headmaster at Oak Mountain Academy in Carrollton, Interim Head of School at The Heritage School in Newnan and currently, Interim Head of School at Augusta Preparatory Day School.
Even with his distinguished career, he is not an unknown to The Schenck School. Mr. Singleton helped to shepherd the School through its first SAIS/SACS accreditation process in 2008 and participated in the development of the strategic plan.
I consider him to be a friend of the School and to have a keen understanding of the needs of our students and the mission of the School.
Chair, Board of Trustees
