Annual Giving

The Schenck School’s Annual Fund is a highlight of the fundraising year.

The School relies on contributions from trustees, faculty and staff, current and past parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends to ensure that the quality of the program remains strong. Tuition provides for the basics of the education received at The Schenck School. The margin of excellence, that which is the hallmark of the entire Schenck School experience, is provided by the Annual Fund.

The Annual Fund directly impacts both students and faculty. These tax-deductible gifts support teacher salary increases, technology enhancement, and critical faculty and staff professional development. Not only are the funds important, but high participation from parents and all constituents plays a substantial role in demonstrating support to outside donors such as foundations.

Annual Fund Volunteers

We are grateful for our many wonderful volunteers who enhance the entire experience at The Schenck School! They give countless hours and complete myriad tasks, all graciously and with great cheerfulness.

Annual Fund FAQ's

What is the Annual Fund?

The Annual Fund is one of the School’s fundraising priorities. Gifts to the Annual Fund, along with income from the Auction and Gala spending from the endowment, closes the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Schenck School education. These funds enrich the intellectual, social, and personal development of every student. The Annual Fund is used for the School’s current-year operating expenses. It’s also an opportunity for those who benefit from and appreciate the mission of the School to express gratitude to those who have made a difference in their lives.

Why not raise tuition?

Most independent schools cannot charge the full cost of educating students without pricing themselves out of the market, and our School is no different. While tuition at The Schenck School covers the basics, it is the additional revenue received from the Annual Fund, the Auction, and other activities which provides the depth and breadth of the total experience students receive at this specialized school.

Are my gifts tax deductible?

Yes, they are – 100%. Gifts can be made by cash, check, and online by credit card.

Are there fundraising activities other than the Annual Fund at The Schenck School?

Yes. In addition to asking everyone in the School to participate in the Annual Fund, the Parents Association raises significant funds through the Auction & Gala. All proceeds from the Auction & Gala are used for current-year operations, just like the Annual Fund.

What are matching gifts?

Some corporations match the gifts their employees contribute to nonprofit organizations. Many families in our School are able to double or triple their personal contributions through their employer’s matching gifts program. Please check with your employer to see if such a program is in place.

Why is participation important?

The School’s financial strength is dependent upon the participation of all members of the School family. Your involvement generates enthusiasm and encourages others to join you in supporting the School. Additionally, when we ask foundations and corporations for support, the participation rate from those we serve, both past and present, is an indicator that the School is strong, valued, and worthy of support.

How much should I give?

You are the only one who knows how much you are able to give. We ask only that you consider The Schenck School as one of your most important philanthropic priorities.

Can I donate stock to the Annual Fund?

Yes. This is a great way to make a gift to the School. Giving appreciated securities provides you with a tax deduction for the appreciated value of the stock without incurring capital gains tax.
