We are unable to determine exactly how many spaces will be available per grade until we know how many of our current students will be outplacing. The number of spaces and number of classes per grade vary from year to year, and we make every attempt to accommodate demand.

Begin by visiting our website and completing our online application through Ravenna. Applicants will be asked to submit the following supplemental materials for their application to be considered complete:

• Psychoeducational evaluation (completed within two years from the date of the application)
• Transcript Release Form (submitted to your child's current school)
• Current Family Photo (optional)
• Teacher Evaluation Form (delegated electronically)  
• Administrator Evaluation Form (delegated electronically)
• Tutor Evaluation Form (if applicable- delegated electronically)
• Unassisted Writing Sample This should be a sample of writing reflective of your child’s current ability. Depending on age and ability, this sample can be anywhere from a few words to a few sentences. You may also submit homework or a class assignment that was completed with no assistance. (Applicants for second through sixth only)
• Parent Assessment of Student Skills (Applicants for Kindergarten only)
• Speech/Language Therapy Evaluation (if applicable)
• Occupational Therapy Evaluation (if applicable)

You and your child will meet with two members of the Admissions Committee for informal testing, which includes brief reading, writing, and spelling exercises. This process allows our team to observe your child's work firsthand and assess their work style and educational needs.

The discussion you have with your child about the admissions process should be tailored to their age and level of self-awareness. We recommend maintaining an open dialogue and sharing information that eases rather than increases anxiety. Many children are already nervous about "performing academically" during a screening, so our goal is to help your child feel relaxed and comfortable. We understand the challenges our applicants face and strive to create a positive, anxiety-free experience.

Parents/Guardians will receive a summary letter providing feedback from the Admissions Director, including interpretation of test scores and recommendations for your child. There are generally three outcomes after a screening:

• If your child is found to be an appropriate candidate, they will be placed in our candidate pool. This means that your child will be considered for acceptance during the decision process.
• It may be determined that your child is appropriate for dyslexia remediation, but does not need a full time specialized setting at this time.
• If it is determined that Schenck is not the appropriate learning environment for your child, you will receive feedback and recommendations for other academic options.

The Schenck School follows a rolling admissions process, meaning we review and accept applications throughout the year. However, all final admission decisions will be sent out by mid-April. This allows us to ensure a thorough review of each application and provide timely responses to all applicants.
