As a result of the winter weather days, the following adjustments will be made to the School calendar:
  • Monday, February 19 (Presidents' Day) will continue to be a school holiday.
  • Friday, March 9 (on the calendar as a Professional Development Day) will be a half-day for students with 11:30 a.m. dismissal.
  • Friday, April 27 (on the calendar as a Professional Development Day) will be a regular school day.

Please be sure to note these days on your calendar. Questions? Contact Head of School Josh Clark.

The next conference day is Thursday, January 25, and we are trying something new during conference time - options for students! Students can go to the Activity Center for active games or to the Library for board games, art, and story time. Parents will sign their children in upon arrival. Students must stay in either the Activity Center or Library for the entire time. Switching rooms will not be allowed, so that parents can find their kids. If necessary, elementary-aged siblings may accompany Schenck School students.

Please be sure to update your child's Magnus Health Portal account prior to your conference on Thursday, January 25. Information should include emergency contacts, medical history, medication dosage at home and school, and any other information the School would need in an emergency. Teachers are not able to change this information. If you need help updating your child's Magnus account, please contact School Nurse Adrianne Thomas.

The Schenck School is participating in Learning Ally's The Great Reading Games again this year! The contest runs from January 8 - February 23, and is designed to encourage students to read and learn. We will earn points when our students use Learning Ally to read books. As of this week, The Schenck School is in fourth place, so keep reading!

Each student has a Learning Ally account through our School membership and can access their account from home on an iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Android tablet, Chromebook, or computer. To get started, log into LearningAlly.com with your child's username and password and "browse audiobooks" to add titles. Click here to access a parent letter with more information. The School can win prizes and recognition, so encourage your child to start reading today! Questions? Contact our media center specialists at library@schenck.org.

In celebration of the 2018 Winter Olympics, students will be participating in their own Schenck School Winter Olympics during P.E. Be sure to ask your student which country he or she is representing, and follow the athletes competing for that nation. Opening ceremonies begin Friday, February 9. Also, be sure to check out some of the fun activities classroom teachers are planning to go along with the P.E. Winter Olympics!

Fourth grade parents, mark your calendar for the Fourth Grade Tea Dance on Wednesday, February 14, from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Students have been working hard to learn several ballroom dances, as well as sharping their etiquette skills. You will be amazed to see your child demonstrate the various dances. Your classroom teachers will send home information and an invitation in the upcoming weeks. If you have questions, please contact your teachers or Fourth Grade Tea Dance Chairs Anupa Patel or Susan Fennell (Popowski).

Volunteers are needed for this special event; click on these links to help with set-up on Tuesday, February 13, to host the refreshment table, or to take photographs. These volunteer opportunities are open to parents of all grades.

Volunteers are needed to help with our monthly celebration of teacher and staff birthdays. Sign up to bring in a cake, fruit, paper products, or a small flower arrangement. Slots are open February through May. This is a great way to show appreciation for our hard-working faculty and staff!

Registration for Schenck School Summer Adventures, our academic and recreational summer program, opens on Monday, January 22. The next parent-teacher conferences are on Thursday, January 25, so be sure to ask your child's teachers if he or she might benefit from Summer Adventures. Spaces fill quickly, so register early. Questions about Summer Adventures may be directed to Director of Student Services Janet Street.

Registration for the Spring Session of Phoenix Fun after school activities opens on Monday, February 5. The Spring Session will run February 26 through May 18. There are lots of fun offerings, so don't miss out! Questions? Contact Director of Student Services Janet Street.
