Wednesday, July 14, 2021 Dear Schenck School Community,
When David Schenck formed a classroom in the basement of a church, he had no way of knowing his bold belief in students who learn differently would become a school and outreach center, internationally recognized for their work serving and celebrating dyslexic learners. Over the past six decades, we have had the wonderful fortune of great leaders shepherding and strengthening David's vision. Josh Clark is one of these valued leaders, so it is with mixed emotions I share that this will be Josh's final school year as our Head of School. I have accepted his resignation effective June 30, 2022. Josh and his family will be moving to Boston's North Shore, where Josh will assume the Head of School position at Landmark School.
Since joining The Schenck School community in 2016, Josh's passion and dedication to students who learn differently has been infectious. Whether it's leading cheers during a House assembly, presenting to parents and community members about the power of the dyslexic mind, or assuring students from atop a painted, fiberglass cow during lockdown, Josh has reminded us all that our children are not broken but brilliant and deserve a school, teachers, and community who understand and celebrate them.
During Josh's tenure, The Schenck School has garnered international recognition through its partnership with Made By Dyslexia, sharing the School's approaches and beliefs with hundreds of thousands of teachers, parents, and students from around the world. Josh also ignited our outreach arm, The Dyslexia Resource, expanding David Schenck's legacy by training the vast majority of Atlanta Public Schools elementary school teachers and bringing the School's remediation model to over 300 struggling readers annually through its partnership with Purpose Built Schools Atlanta. Most recently and most notably, Josh led our community through the immense challenges associated with Covid-19, keeping our community safe and our students in school.
While we will miss Josh, we are already hard at work conducting a national search for his successor. The Board of Trustees has assembled a search committee chaired by Jeffrey Wright, Vice Chair of our Board of Trustees, current Schenck School parent, and alumnus of The Schenck School. The committee has engaged the search consulting firm Carney Sandoe and Associates to assist with the process. Carney Sandoe assisted the School with the search that brought us Josh, so they already have a strong familiarity with our school, community, and culture. Expect communication from Jeffrey and the committee soon with more details about the process and opportunities to be involved.
During the remainder of his tenure, Josh will focus on continuing the important work of The Schenck School and ensuring his successor has everything he or she needs for success. Josh will also continue to ensure the School is responsive to the still evolving challenges presented by Covid-19. I want to thank Josh for his leadership, and I am excited about working with you all to identify the next exemplary leader of our exemplary school.
Sincerely,
Kim Marks Chair, Board of Trustees
