S.H.I.N.E.
S.H.I.N.E. (S chenck H elping I ndividuals in N eed E xcel) provides one-on-one tutoring at no charge to metro children ages five-15 who have documented reading difficulties and demonstrated financial need. The goal is to develop strong readers through effective intensive tutoring.
All tutors in this program are Schenck School volunteers. Reading instruction is grounded in the Orton-Gillingham Approach, a research-based, multisensory, highly successful approach to phonics and reading instruction.
Sessions are usually one hour, twice per week. Tutoring is often conducted at The Schenck School between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.
